Certified Veterinary Technician - Emergency
Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists – Hoffman Estates is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Assistant to join our emergency team. The position is full‑time, overnight shift, three days per week (Th/Fr/Sat).
Role Responsibilities- Support emergency veterinarians to deliver quality care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
- Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
- Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with state Veterinary Practice Act for credentialed technicians.
- Communicate with clients about individualized health concerns, medications, and additional treatments.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records using practice systems.
- Obtain client health history and information; maintain medical charts.
- Use safe restraining techniques, follow protocols, and keep treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs clean, sterile, and organized.
- Guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
- Preferred: CVT, CVT‑eligible, CVT student; CVT not required.
- Clinical background in ER or urgent care veterinary medicine required.
- Anesthesia experience highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical treatments (e.g., CRI setup/maintenance, NG tubes, central line placement, glucose curves, post‑surgical care, oxygen‑dependent patients, blocked cats).
- Strong knowledge of infectious diseases and systemic disorders.
- Accurate performance of routine in‑house laboratory procedures, specimen collection, preparation, and handling per hospital protocols.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of laboratory testing and required samples.
- Ability to articulate professional veterinary verbiage while maintaining a medical record.
- High level of communication with clients and referral partners.
- Understanding of basic emergency care including CPR.
- Motivation and initiative to help teammates in any situation.
