Job Overview:
We are currently looking for an Automated Guided Vehicle Technician to join our team in Holland. Performs preventive and routine maintenance, and emergency repairs to AGV and conveyer systems. Changes all batteries and ensures proper battery rotation. Ensures operation of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs); monitors and operates overall system, using computer terminal and camera systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Uses computer and camera systems to monitor and operate entire AGV system to ensure materials and products are transported smoothly between production and distribution areas.
  • Investigate back-ups and perform manual adjustments as needed to ensure smooth product flow.
  • Uses remote control unit to retrieve non-functional AGVs and transfer them to repair area.
  • Operates and maintains battery-changing station for AGVs, including battery changing machine, battery changes, and gel cell batteries for totes and/or vehicles, providing timely maintenance for vehicles.
  • Determines equipment's ability for safe operation; evaluates safety equipment to ensure specific mechanical and Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Agency (MIOSHA) regulations are met.
  • Performs scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PMs) on AGVs and conveyers per checklist.
  • Completes required repairs, makes periodic adjustments and replaces needed components or parts.
  • Assist in managing spare parts inventory for AGV equipment.
  • Operates PC-based maintenance system to source parts from tool cribs for AGV system.
  • May be required to unload products and materials from conveyers to ensure product continues to flow effectively.
  • Operates industrial lift truck to retrieve broken equipment and remove batteries from racks for repair or replacement.
  • May install and repair AGV guidance wire in floors, ensuring effective and efficient operation of system.
  • Operates gas-powered concrete saw while repairing or replacing guide wire. Repairs concrete floor back to operable condition.
  • Creates and completes work requests and work orders, sources parts from tool crib, and obtains historical work orders information.
  • Maintains documentation of equipment; completes all appropriate paperwork.
  • Rotates through department work centers based on business need.
  • Works overtime as needed.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Do you meet these qualifications?

Education:

8th grade

Work Requirements and

Experience:

One year experience operating material handling equipment such as industrial lift trucks. Ability to obtain and maintain powered industrial truck certification. Ability to obtain and maintain Michigan driver license.

Environmental and Physical Demands:
Large machinery and equipment used in work areas. Possibility of cuts, scrapes or bruises. Moderate exposure to dust, noise, solvent, heat, paint, and lubricants. May also be exposed to glue, solvent, heat, paint, fiberglass, and denatured alcohol. Constant mental and visual alertness required to avoid potential serious injury to self and others in all work groups. Eye protection required; hearing protection may be required.

Moves and may lift materials and/or products weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects). Walks, bends, twists, turns, reaches and lifts while performing functions of position. Standing required for extended periods. Work requires regular repetitive arm and hand movement. May be required to climb stairs and ladders.

Applicants must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for the position.

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals in order to perform repairs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze root causes of issues to determine and implement appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate electronic production system and maintenance management system to complete job duties, along with the respective technology tools, e.g. personal computer (PC), tablet, keyboard, mouse, RF gun.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
