Communications Supervisor, Signals and Communications

Hiring Salary Range: $ - $. This range represents the hiring range. Salaries are determined individually depending on skills and experience. The Communications Supervisor, Signals and Communications is responsible for overseeing all Signals and Communications (S&C) signal systems, inspection activities, maintenance and installation programs as well as employees on an assigned territory.

• Lead assigned personnel to ensure S&C work is performed with CN’s and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards, and in conjunction with applicable collective bargaining agreements.
• Direct Communication Technicians and recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues, as well as respond to and resolve grievances.

• Build safety compliance and improve safety results through efficiency testing and safety walkabouts.
• Provide positive and constructive feedback as well as coaching.

• Plan, implement, and spearhead capital projects to ensure the execution of the plan is within CN and FRA standards.

• Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with transportation and mechanical to establish cause and future prevention.

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments with various weather conditions. The role is required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, meet deadlines, interface with senior management, and respond to unexpected or emergency situations. The position is required to travel for company business, at times without advance notice.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in S&C.
• Minimum 2 Years Of S&C Communication Technician Experience.
• Minimum 2 years prior supervisory experience. Any experience for these above would be considered an asset.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-year Technical Degree.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset.

• Extensive working knowledge of S&C communications systems infrastructure and related safety appliances, S&C project management, applicable regulatory signal systems, general instructions, railway S&C standards, standard S&C specifications, and procedures.
• Good computer skills and knowledge of the Signals & Communications Inspection System (SCIS), Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
