Position: Public Safety Supervisor - Armed Location: South Suburban Hospital;
Hazel Crest, IL.
Full Time; 1st Shift
Major Responsibilities
- Provides security services with a customer‑service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.
- Creates a team atmosphere based on mutual respect, collaboration, and open communication.
- Acts as a coach for teammates, providing feedback that builds resiliency and fosters creativity of thinking.
- Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service‑oriented appearance and demeanor; is alert, observant, and ethical; complies with and enforces all safety and security rules and regulations.
- Oversees performance of the shift’s routine and emergency responsibilities; collaborates with staff, leadership, and other departments to accomplish organizational goals, resolve security concerns, share information, monitor customer satisfaction, and provide education and training.
- Prioritizes and assigns tasks to accommodate shifting demands and resource pressures; confirms work documentation in the electronic record, approves incident reports, and conducts shift briefings to ensure accurate communication and handoff.
- Coordinates emergency response planning and practice with other departments and units; ensures that after‑action reviews are accomplished and documented.
- Provides liaison with community police, fire, and government officials; conducts major investigations relative to accidents, thefts, injuries, and other incidents; conducts investigation/reviews of situations that require a threat assessment.
- Performs administrative requirements; responsible for KRA results, provides input to and implements the budget, administers policies and procedures, conducts inspections and audits to identify vulnerabilities and hazards, corrects deficiencies identified by third‑party inspections, audits, and regulatory surveys, and meets state and federal compliance regulations (e.g., DNV, Environment of Care chapter of the Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, etc.).
- Maintains current department training standards in radio communications, verbal de‑escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon (Taser), and training on any/all department‑issued equipment and/or requirements identified in the Annual Training Plan.
- Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completing performance reviews and overall staff morale; recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization’s business.
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained on a one‑time basis within two years of appointment to this role. Recertification is not required.
- For North Carolina teammates, an Armed Guard License issued by NC Private Protective Services must be obtained within 1 year and maintained through training and competency assessments.
- NIMS Compliance Certification.
- Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card issued by the Illinois State Police or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
- Must meet State of IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and be able to obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) for Proprietary Personnel within 90 days of hire.
- Stop the Bleed Certification.
- A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle.
- Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (e.g., TASER) use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter.
