Job Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and participating in the maintenance, repair, and operation of all campus facilities and grounds, including the school’s dormitory and on-campus residential housing. This position ensures that the campus environment is safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, faculty, and staff.

This position provides leadership and direction to Physical Plant staff and contractors, while also performing hands‑on work in the field. The role requires a proactive, highly skilled professional who can balance supervision with active participation in daily maintenance, repairs, event setup, and other operational tasks.

Leadership and Oversight
  • Lead by example through active involvement in maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily operations of campus housing, facilities maintenance, and groundskeeping functions.
  • Work side‑by‑side with staff to ensure high‑quality and timely completion of maintenance, repair, and improvement projects.
  • Train, guide, and evaluate assigned personnel in accordance with school policies and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate with other departments and administrators to support the school’s programs, events, and facility needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all facility‑related issues concerning the dormitory and on‑campus residential buildings.
  • Serve as the point of contact in the absence of the Plant Superintendent.
Maintenance and Operations
  • Perform and assist in maintenance, repair, and improvement projects involving carpentry, painting, mechanical, and general facilities systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of campus buildings, housing, and equipment to identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve facility issues directly, ensuring timely and effective repairs.
  • Respond to emergency calls (including after‑hours) involving facilities, housing, or grounds to protect people and property from hazards such as fire, flooding, or other incidents.
  • Operate and maintain school vehicles, tools, and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient use.
  • Oversee swimming pool water quality testing and maintenance.
Campus Housing and Event Support
  • Oversee and participate directly in maintenance and repair work for the dormitory and other on‑campus housing facilities.
  • Coordinate and actively assist with setup, breakdown, and restoration of facilities and grounds for campus‑wide events, including assemblies, athletic events, performances, and special programs.
  • Manage logistics and facility preparation for events involving residential housing and dormitory spaces.
  • Develop and implement maintenance and emergency response plans for campus housing and related facilities.
  • Inspect dormitory facilities regularly to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulations.
Groundskeeping and Environmental Maintenance
  • Work directly with staff to perform groundskeeping duties such as landscaping, planting, mowing, trimming, and irrigation.
  • Maintain all grounds equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform pest control, equipment upkeep, and the safe application of herbicides/insecticides in compliance with all environmental and safety regulations.
