Job Description:

The Airport Maintenance Repairer I performs a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of the facilities, equipment, and aircraft operational and other areas of a primary airport; and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Experience and Training:
    Four (4) years of work experience in performing a variety of building maintenance and equipment repair work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Knowledge of:
    Basic practices and methods used in building and equipment maintenance and repair, including safety procedures; and common tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, and masonry trades.
  • Ability to:
    Determine need for repairs involving a variety of building trades; use hand tools utilized in a variety of building trades; read blueprints and sketches; estimate time and material needed to perform typical repairs; make mechanical repairs to equipment and appliances of a primary airport following manufacturer’s manual; understand and follow oral and written instructions, including learning operational requirements and rules/regulations of a primary airport pertinent to the work.
  • Physical and Medical Requirements:
    Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Any condition which would cause applicants to be a hazard to themselves or others is cause for disqualification.
  • Driver’s License:
    Possession of a valid State of Hawaii Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Type A must be obtained within six (6) months of the date of hire.
  • Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Clearance – Federal Criminal History Records Check:
    Prospective employees must not have been convicted of a disqualifying criminal offense within ten years from the date of application. On recommendation for hire, they must successfully undergo a fingerprint‑based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years.
  • Legal Authorization to Work:
    The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
