Salary Range – School Custodian III, WS-02: $4,672.00 per month
Responsibilities- Direct the work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school.
- Assign, lay out, inspect, and supervise the work of subordinates to ensure buildings and grounds are kept clean and orderly.
- Perform maintenance on plumbing, electrical fixtures, and woodwork that does not require journeyman trade skills.
- Supervise custodial staff in preparing for special school functions.
- Oversee cleaning and operational maintenance of special school equipment such as swimming pools, auditoriums, and loud speaker systems.
- Supervise or participate in the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants, and lawns.
- Manage requisitions, receiving, storing, and inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment.
- Maintain records of supplies dispensed and equipment issued.
- Prepare reports on work accomplished and report unusual happenings or accidents.
- Keep daily time sheets.
- Hold security responsibility for the school, including turning on and off night lights at proper hours.
- Supervise student helpers when assigned.
- Operate power equipment such as power lawn mowers.
- Perform typical duties of lower‑level custodians when necessary.
Applicants must have a total of four (4) years of experience: two (2) years of general custodial or related work and two (2) years of supervisory experience, with at least one (1) year being comparable in nature and scope to a School Custodian in the State Service.
- General experience in janitorial or custodial work such as sweeping, dusting, and cleaning buildings.
- Grounds maintenance experience including cleaning, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping, and raking.
- General labor experience such as moving materials, furniture, and equipment; loading and unloading trucks; carrying, unloading, and stacking tools and supplies; and digging trenches and ditches.
- Evidence of supervisory aptitude through assignments involving supervisory responsibilities, supervisory training, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
- Overall experience must demonstrate the scope and level of responsibility for the duties of this position.
