Summary
This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services including textile distribution and inventory activity, sanitizing and disinfecting, waste removal, cleaning of blinds, replacing curtains, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures, discharge cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing and extracting, polishing floors and applying floor finishes.

Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Screen‑out element:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen‑out element. Those who meet the minimum acceptable qualification are considered for further rating; others are eliminated. Eligible applicants are then rated against remaining job elements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Volunteer experience is credited if you describe duties, responsibilities, and hours.
- Perform floor maintenance and wall washing.
- Clean doors, door frames, baseboard corners and edges, and stairwells.
- Empty trash and wastebaskets and replace liners.
- Transport general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas.
- Clean rest rooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring they meet acceptable standards (disinfect, deodorize lavatories, showers, bathtubs, urinals, and toilet bowls).
- Clean mirrors, sinks, water fountains, and wash & polish light and toilet fixtures.
- Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap in all dispenser locations.
- Move and arrange furniture, patient wardrobes, beds, and other items in the assigned area to accomplish cleaning tasks.
- Work schedule follows a tour of duty that varies.
The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. Duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand‑foot‑eye coordination, concentration, and visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of heat and cold, as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstances. The role requires care to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders or using 30–100‑pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
