Aircraft Mechanic 2 (CH-47/AH-64/UH-60 – NDI II) Wheeler AAF, HI - CBA

The Aircraft Mechanic 2 (CH-47/AH-64/UH-60 – NDI II) oversees and performs maintenance on helicopters, excluding repair of systems according to drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals and safety procedures. Inspects aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.

Responsibilities include overseeing removal and installation of aircraft subsystem assemblies such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components. Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems. Prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks. Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections. Assists in diagnosing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems using special tools and equipment as required. Maintains supplies and performs preventive maintenance.

Adheres to company policies and safety programs (Safety-first mentality). Processes parts and performs equipment standardization. Follows written instructions in the techniques/methods for which certified. Receives guidance or supervision from a Level III in that method when necessary. Sets up and standardizes equipment, conducts tests, interprets and evaluates for acceptance or rejection, and documents. Familiar with the scope and limitations of the technique/method in which they are certified.

Provides guidance and supervision to trainers and Level I personnel in the technique/method in which they are certified. Familiar with the codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the method as utilized by the employer. Develops written instructions form approved general procedures. Determines test method and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection. Interprets nondestructive inspection test results and provides information about defects to repair center.

Analyzes wear metal content reports on engine lubricating oil and other fluids and recommends corrective action. Establishes radiation areas for radiographic operations. Monitors personal exposure areas for radiographic operations, and monitors personnel exposure data. Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems. Detects flaws such as cracks, delamination, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particles, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic test equipment.

Determines metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors. Operates, maintains, and inspects nondestructive equipment. Performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools. Ensures lock out and tag out procedures are accomplished prior to maintenance on equipment. Performs silver recovery functions. Handles and disposes of hazardous waste and materials.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired, certification of education level is required.
• Valid up-to-date A&P license (optional)
• Shall have three years aviation maintenance experience, three years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the six most recent years.
• Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by aircraft mechanic.
• The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
• Must be trained and qualified per NAS 410 or ASNT-CP-189 to the level assigned.
• Previous experience in the maintenance, modification, and repair of tactical aircraft systems of the type being serviced and their associated components.
• Completion of an initial Non-Destructive Inspection Level II training course and current basic qualifications.
