Position Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for overall maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of Mid-Columbia Children's Council (MCCC) facilities and equipment. This position ensures all buildings meet federal, state, and local health and safety regulations, including compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to:
General Maintenance
1. Perform routine maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC tasks.
2. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders from center staff.
3. Maintain interior areas of facilities including classrooms, offices, bathrooms, and kitchens.
4. Maintain outdoor play equipment and playgrounds to ensure all are safe and free of hazards.
Safety & Compliance
5. Conduct regular health and safety inspections of facilities and indoor equipment.
6. Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, OSHA regulations, and local building codes.
7. Identify and correct safety hazards promptly.
8. Maintain and monitor fire safety systems such as extinguishers, alarms, and emergency exits.
9. Monitor and maintain pest control and assist with pest control services as needed. Attend annual Integrated Pest Management training.
10. Actively participate in safety committee.
Cleaning & Sanitation Support
11. Support custodial staff or perform cleaning duties when needed, particularly during absences or emergencies.
12. Ensure compliance with sanitation protocols in classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, and other program areas.
13. Safely handle and store cleaning supplies and chemicals in accordance with safety regulations.
Preventive Maintenance & Repairs
14. Implement preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing, and other building systems.
15. Repair or arrange for repairs to equipment, fixtures, and furniture.
16. Coordinate with licensed contractors for specialized or large-scale repairs as needed.
Record Keeping & Reporting
17. Maintain logs of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
18. Prepare facilities for licensing inspections, audits, and safety reviews.
19. Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
Facility Support
20. Set up rooms and equipment for program events, trainings, and special activities.
21. Assist in moving furniture, equipment, or materials within and between sites as needed.
22. Ensure mechanical systems (e.g., heating, cooling, lighting) are fully functional and meet program needs.
OTHER
23. Perform all other work-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
• High School Diploma
• Sufficient English proficiency to comprehend both oral and written directions.
Preferred
• Associate's degree
• Valid driver's license, proof of insurability, and cleared state driving record check.

They may need to position themselves in various postures and ascend/descend ramps, ladders and/or stairs. The employee must be able to move up to 100 lbs.
