SUMMARY: This position performs tasks in the maintenance of the Village’s streets, drainage and common property. Employees in this class are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by degree of skill, independent judgment, amount of on-the-job training experience, ability to operate equipment, and skill in supervising others. Requires valid Arkansas driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

May be required to obtain CDL license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintenance of streets, drainage and common property.
  • Maintains roads with asphalt repairs, cutting of grass, limbs and trees. Cleans drainage ditches and repair or replaces culverts.
  • Be able to operate chainsaw, weed eater, etc. Should be able to be trained to operate machinery, such as dump truck, backhoe, skid steer and motor grader.
  • Maintains equipment and assigned vehicles in a clean and organized condition.
  • Reports problems to Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • May be required to work periodically for Sanitation Department.
  • Follow all Property Owners Association (POA) policies and safety rules.
  • May receive or be required to gain additional training.
  • May be required to obtain a CDL license, drive a POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  • This position is subject to on duty lunch periods. An on-duty meal period is one in which the employee is not relieved of all duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. If the position is being hired for Water/Wastewater Division, it requires general knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed. Must have ability to use standard equipment used in water and wastewater maintenance. Must have ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions. Must have ability to follow oral and written instructions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to read and understand utility pipe plans. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and difference between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Requires a valid Arkansas driver license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance. May be required to obtain a commercial driver’s license.
