DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe, well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Laborer (Seasonal Temporary) to join its Green space Management team.
- Maintain park grounds by picking up litter and debris.
- Perform basic cleaning of park facilities and monitor supplies in restrooms.
- Report problems or safety hazards.
- Operate small lawn and garden power tools such as backpack blowers, string trimmers, and stick edgers.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Provide and maintain own safety shoes.
Routine exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness, and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSVery fundamental levels of ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years of formal schooling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSNo experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMay require a valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2‑2).
PREFERENCESApplicants who can work day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for and are among the most qualified candidates for the position.
