Position SummaryThe Facilities Operator coordinates and performs maintenance, repair, and facilities operations to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained buildings and grounds. Supports daily operations through preventive maintenance, work order management, and collaboration with internal staff and external vendors. May be required to work during inclement weather or emergencies.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance (Electrical: light bulbs, minor repairs;
Plumbing: leaks, unclogging; HVAC: system monitoring; Carpentry: drywall repair, painting; Exterior: pest control, lawn care). - Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs.
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations.
- Report damage, vandalism, or theft immediately.
- Maintain accurate records per applicable laws, regulations, and district policies.
- Establish and maintain a work order system; document and approve all orders before execution.
- Evaluate work orders to determine materials, equipment, and time.
- Execute work orders with high quality, safety, and timeliness.
- Track labor time and project costs.
- Communicate with school staff and departments to coordinate requests and schedules.
- Collaborate with contractors and vendors, ensuring services meet district standards.
- Monitor vendor work for health, safety, and security compliance.
- Identify needs beyond in-house scope; recommend contractors with scope/specifications.
- Collaborate with landlord representatives on annual building inspection reports.
- Oversee custodial staff or vendor supervisors.
- Assist staff with moving, lifting, assembling furniture and materials.
- Pickup and deliver supplies between campuses and storage facilities.
- Maintain professional competence through training.
- Participate in district staff development.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and community members.
- Maintain regular attendance and uphold professionalism, confidentiality, and ethics.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma/GED required; vocational/technical school, college coursework, or associate’s degree preferred.
- License or certification in a skilled area preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in applicable area.
- Preferred: experience providing maintenance services in a public school district or charter.
- Experience working with a wide range of populations (staff, students, parents, stakeholders).
