* Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Schedules, prepares and reviews work assignments related to point repairs, rehabilitation and collection system maintenance, assigned to contractors, for the sanitary sewer collection system. Investigates and responds to inquiries concerning, sanitary sewer issues, code interpretations and technical problems from contractors, technical professional and public. Prepares and reviews reports, form and records. Assist general public with preparing various forms.
Provides code interpretation to enhance technical quality. Conducts various inspections related to rehabilitations of the collection system. Performs inspections of public infrastructures for various civil construction projects (i.e., paving, water and wastewater lines and facilities, storm sewers and traffic signals) to ensure conformance to project specifications and contract documents. WORKING CONDITIONS Routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, up to forty (40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Five (5) years of skilled experience related to construction are required. Substitution: A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field may substitute for up to four (4) years of the experience requirement. Vocational training and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Requires certification as a Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) by the American Public Works Association or an industry-recognized equivalent certification within the first year of employment in the job. Preferred:
Certificates of completion in one (1) or more fields of expertise (i.e. concrete, electrical, etc.) offered by any public or private agency (i.e. Department of Transportations) or other independent provider. Must have valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (A.P. 2-2).
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
