Aircraft Mechanic ; Wheel and Tire

Wheel and Tire Technician / Aircraft Mechanic

• Inspect aircraft wheels and tires for wear, damage, cracks, overheating, foreign objects, or other defects.
• Remove and install aircraft tires on wheel assemblies using approved tools and procedures.
• Service tires with the correct pressure and approved inflation medium.
• Disassemble and reassemble wheel assemblies, including inspecting wheel halves, bearings, seals, and other components.
• Replace worn or damaged components, such as tires, tubes where applicable, bearings, seals, and wheel hardware.
• Inspect and service wheel bearings, including cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, and replacement as required.
• Inspect brake components associated with the wheel assembly and report or correct defects within their authorization.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance according to aircraft maintenance manuals and company procedures.
• Use maintenance documentation systems such as NAMIS to document maintenance actions performed, and record completed maintenance accurately to maintain historical records and the description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
• Troubleshoot landing-gear wheel and tire problems, such as abnormal tire wear, vibration, leaks, or overheating.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and properly handle tools, equipment, and removed components.
• The Technician may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
• Inspects, certifies, and approves completed maintenance actions.
• May be assigned Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties with future training and personal progression.
• Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks.
• Stores, handles, inspects, inventories, and disposes of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards.
• Maintain tool control.
• Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor.
• Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis and replace worn or broken tools.
• Selects, uses, and cares for special tools, hand tools, and test equipment and turn in for calibrations as required.
• Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day to day maintenance.
• Promptly report all accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
• Knowledgeable in the use of a wide variety of hand and mechanical tools. Recommends methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures.

• Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
• Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
• Ability to follow a process.
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
• Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
• Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
• High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• Ability to multi-task
• Shall be able to perform physically demanding tasks and lift 50 lb, be on feet all day, and walk up to 2 miles per day.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• May require a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airplane and/or Powerplant certification or special skills and/or certifications for certain platforms but not required for daily performance of duties.
• 2+ years of aviation experience with fixed wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft required.
• Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance
• Must be able to work weekends & travel when required.
