DPW W1 Custodian

Definition

Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.

• Performs a variety of routine and respective tasks that may occasionally be carried out independently but with work checked during progress and upon completion for satisfactory performance.
• Must be able to communicate proficiently with office staff and department heads.
• Continuous physical effort demanded in operating cleaning equipment, standing and lifting or carrying equipment, tools and materials while performing duties under varying weather conditions.

• Participates in the general cleaning and maintenance of the town buildings including but not limited to bathrooms, floors, trash, carpets and glass; along with outside walkways and stairways.
• Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.
• Performs routine maintenance activities.
• Performs heavy cleaning duties.
• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.
• Gathers and empties trash.
• Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
• Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment
• Cleans polishes fixtures and equipment
• Shampoos or steams carpets and rugs
• Strip and buff floors
• Reports major repairs required promptly to the Custodial Manager or Director of Facilities.
• Assists in snow removal of the Town buildings and ensures that walkways and stairways are salted and safe for pedestrian travel. Overtime hours are required as needed.
• Other related duties as needed.

• High school education or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods or procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
• Class D drivers license required.
