Hours:

10:00pm - 06:30am and
* Varied (Shift work, including rotation, weekends, and holidays). Subject to change. The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, Airside Operations and Maintenance business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports. The purpose of the Equipment Worker at the Houston Airport System is to operate heavy equipment and trucks to transport equipment, refuse and/or materials to and from work sites.

Perform a variety of manual task and activities, i.e., spraying, lawn care, moving furniture, roofing, painting, digging manholes, mowing, plumbing, pouring concrete or asphalt, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) clean up and removal, etc. Troubleshoots, maintains, cleans and services equipment, vehicles, tools, and facilities. Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials, and equipment. Performs routine and non-technical inspections, preventive maintenance, scheduled maintenance, and corrective maintenance, work on airport landside roadways, fields, ditches, and grounds.

Expected to perform minor to moderate construction activities such as setting forms and batching concrete to construct and/or repair, sidewalks, driveway, street cuts, airfield pavements;
Finishes of concrete slabs by spreading, bull floating, troweling, edging, and brooming;
Cures concrete forms to complete the setting process. Observes and follows safety precautions s position may be assigned duties at all Houston Airport System facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD. Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date.

Equipment Worker duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Operate cement mixers to mix cement, aggregate, water, and additives. Smoothing and finishing poured concrete surfaces.
  • Prepares, repairs, and finishes a variety of hard surfaces such as setting and pulling concrete forms, cutting, and placing rebars, pouring and finishing concrete.
  • Operates a variety of paint machines to include but not limited to:
    Line Lazer paint machines, air paint guns, paint trucks, etc.
  • Operates heavy equipment and operates trucks to transport equipment, refuse and/or materials to and from work sites.
  • Performs a variety of manual tasks and activities, i.e. spraying, lawn care, moving furniture, roofing, painting, digging manholes, mowing, pouring concrete or asphalt, etc.
  • Maintains, cleans and services equipment, vehicles, tools and facilities. Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Observes and follows safety procedures and precautions at worksite.
  • May investigate and respond to complaints.
  • Prepares and maintains reports, forms and records.
  • May act as a lead of a crew and coordinate and monitor work assignments and personnel.

Working conditions:

The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make fairly complex coordinated and sequenced motor movements in response to quickly changing external stimuli.

Minimum Requirements

Educational requirements Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. Experience requirements Six months of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments are required. License requirements May be required to have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving based on the type of equipment the individual is assigned to operate.
