Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, responsible for leading and coordinating cleaning activities for Custodial Staff. Trains and educates Custodial Staff in cleaning techniques and schedules staff to ensure that work is performed properly. Performs daily checks to ensure all areas are cleaned according to provided standards. (All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)

  • Instruct, direct and perform work cooperatively with the Custodians assigned to the work area.
  • Oversee work of Custodial staff.
  • Schedule coverage to ensure all areas are cleaned in the proper manner.
  • Assist with lifting trash, furniture and equipment when needed by Custodial Staff.
  • Ability to operate cleaning tools/equipment and apply proper body mechanics to ensure safe and proper technique to prevent staff injury.
  • Performs simple repairs to buildings and equipment as needed and reports issues to building maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with County directors, staff and members of the public.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of any level of primary or secondary education that resulted in the awarding of a high school diploma or an equivalent diploma.
  • 2 years full-time commercial custodial experience or equivalent related training.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of safe and effective work practices and County policy and procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical strength and ability to push, pull, and lift various pieces of equipment and furniture up to a weight of 50 pounds.
  • Perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning and limited maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
Certifications or Licenses Required

Must have a valid Alabama Driver’s license and ability to operate County vehicle.

Work Schedule
  • 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
  • Monday - Friday
