Summary
Valley County is seeking a Campground Coordinator to serve as the primary lead for the Horsethief and Wellington Campgrounds. As the 'face' of the department, the Coordinator ensures a high-quality visitor experience by maintaining a visible presence and overseeing daily operations. This individual acts as a vital liaison between the public, Valley County Parks & Recreation, and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who enjoys the outdoors and excels at interacting with a diverse public. From managing volunteer hosts to performing light maintenance, the Coordinator ensures these recreational areas remain safe, welcoming, and efficiently run.
As this is a seasonal position with the county, it is ineligible for employee benefits and is limited to no more than 8 months in duration.
TypicalDuties & Responsibilities
The Campground Coordinator plays a dynamic role in the daily success of Valley County’s recreational sites. Central to this position is the leadership and supervision of campground hosts, where the Coordinator manages schedules and provides clear instruction to ensure seamless, 24/7 site coverage.
As a steward of county resources, the Coordinator is responsible for the diligent collection and documentation of camping fees, ensuring all funds are delivered securely to the Parks Department for reconciliation.
On the ground, the Coordinator serves as the primary ambassador for the county, acting as the first point of contact for guest inquiries and local recreational guidance while skillfully navigating conflict resolution to maintain a positive atmosphere. This proactive approach extends to facility oversight; the Coordinator performs regular inspections of signage and infrastructure, personally handling minor maintenance and landscaping—such as weed whacking and basic repairs—to keep the grounds attractive and functional.
Success in this role requires a high degree of collaboration, particularly with Idaho Fish and Game staff regarding land management at Horsethief Reservoir. The Coordinator is expected to monitor guest compliance with all regulations, communicate critical emergency information, and report major infrastructure needs directly to the Parks & Recreation Director. Finally, the Coordinator ensures operational safety by expertly navigating county vehicles across both paved and unpaved terrain, maintaining a professional and reliable presence even during occasional nighttime rounds.
