The K‑8 Music Teacher/Band Director is responsible for creating a positive, engaging, and student‑centered music program that fosters a lifelong appreciation of music. This position includes general music instruction for students in kindergarten through eighth grade and instrumental band instruction for students in grades 4‑8.
Qualifications- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate music endorsement.
- Strong knowledge of elementary and middle school music curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Experience teaching instrumental band and conducting ensembles is preferred.
- Ability to organize and direct concerts, performances, and special music events.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Plan and deliver engaging standards‑based music instruction for students in grades K‑8.
- Direct and develop the school's instrumental band program, including rehearsals and performances.
- Prepare students for concerts, assemblies, festivals, and other performance opportunities.
- Assess student progress and communicate achievement with students and families.
- Differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students K‑8.
- Maintain and inventory music equipment, instruments, and instructional materials.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
- Foster student creativity, confidence, teamwork, and musical growth.
Reports to:
Principal
Salary/benefits based on education and experience, and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
