The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a teacher in a Catholic school, the Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to the students, both as a role model and through the various tasks, actions and other responsibilities assigned to the Teacher. The Teacher is a ministerial employee because of the Teacher’s role as both a representative of the Church and as a communicator of the Church’s message to the children entrusted to the Church’s care.

The Teacher is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The Teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school. The Teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

The Teacher is a representative of the Archbishop of Chicago, effectuating his ministry of Catholic education and the religious teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church at the level of the local school. This position is for the 2026 - 2027 school year.

Primary Function:
The classroom teacher is responsible for helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, responsible adults. The classroom teacher creates and delivers engaging lessons to diverse groups of students at all levels; promotes enthusiasm for learning and for subjects; adheres to curriculum standards; and collects and reports on correct and detailed records of student performance.

Key Relationships:
The classroom teacher reports to the principal and is supervised by the principal. Other key relationships include the assistant principal, grade level team, and his/her co-teacher.

Qualifications and Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree is preferred A valid and current Professional Educators License (PEL) Ability to plan and teach appropriate grade level curriculum Ability to establish collaborative relationships with co-teacher or grade level teaching staff Personal.

Professional Qualities:
The classroom teacher must possess the ability to work tactfully and effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. He/she must display evidence of an educational philosophy in agreement with that of Holy Family Catholic Academy. He/she must display an ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.

Professional Responsibilities:
Adheres to the unique Catholic mission and interfaith values of the Academy Utilizes effective instructional strategies with students. Manages the classroom in a positive manner, respecting the dignity of all. Completes annual goals and seeks professional development opportunities. Maintains a positive rapport with all members of HFCA community. Fulfills routine duties and expectations in a dependable manner.

Respects the integrity of fellow staff, students and parents by being discreet and tactful when discussing student and school-related issues. Demonstrates flexibility and models collegiality, fulfills routine duties and expectations in a dependable manner. Demonstrates evidence of prior planning and preparation. Creates lesson plans with clear student-centered objectives, incorporating the principles of backward design, as well as the use of formative and summative assessments.
