Job Summary

Under supervision of Irons Oaks Manager, responsible for overall management of the Adventure Education program, budget preparation, long range planning, program development, corporate program and event marketing, public relations in the community, policy and procedures manual, safety manual, grounds and initiative maintenance, negotiating contracts with vendors, fiscal management, preparation of grant applications. The H-F Park District’s mission statement is “to enhance the quality of life through diverse recreational opportunities, facilities and parks while caring for the environment”.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our internal and external guests by providing friendly, responsive, courteous and helpful service.
  • Create the Adventure Center and Outdoor Recreation budget for the year.
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate employees.
  • Create proposals for Adventure Center capital improvements.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the land management plan.
  • Prepare monthly program reports for the Operating Committee and Board Report.
  • Assist with the overall coordination for the facility.
  • Maintain current Irons Oaks certification on teams, ropes, climbing tower and power pole.
  • Prepare news releases, brochures and grant applications.
  • Direct program, staff training and safety procedure development.
  • Network and partner with other professionals in the field.
  • Maintain current Adventure Center training manuals.
  • Develop goals, objectives and long-range plans.
  • Develop and implement marketing plan for corporate users.
  • Expand corporate program services.
  • Conduct Adventure Education programs and workshops.
  • Participate in professional organizations and attend conferences and seminars.
  • Archive electronic waivers.
  • Maintain updates in Park District registration program.
  • Participate in Irons Oaks Foundation and Operating Committee meetings, as necessary.
  • Recruit and train Adventure Center facilitators.
  • Adhere to the safety policy and procedures outlined in the Safety Manual.
  • Construction of Adventure Education physical elements.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

  • Exhibit good judgment.
Job Skills and Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Adventure Education philosophy and programming.
  • Working knowledge of group and team dynamics for a wide range of ages, including adult and corporate groups.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adventure Education safety and staff training.
  • Skills include budgeting, grant writing, project management, scheduling, marketing, and communication and implementation of directives.
  • Experience with building Adventure Education physical elements.
  • Master’s degree in Recreation or a related field is preferred.
Education and Training
  • BS/BA degree preferred in Recreation or related field.
  • Five years supervisory experience.

  • AED and CPR certification
  • Participate in park district working committee.
