Position Summary

The Membership Development Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing ALA’s mission by driving membership growth among law firms and other legal organizations. This position is responsible for developing and executing strategies to recruit new members, promote the value of ALA membership, and convert prospects into engaged members.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies targeting law firms and legal organizations to expand ALA’s membership base.
  • Design and manage outreach campaigns in collaboration with marketing, including email, social media, and website content focused on membership benefits.
  • Generate leads and build relationships with prospective members and their firms through networking, industry events, and strategic partnerships.
  • Manage and track prospects through the recruitment pipeline using ALA’s CRM.
  • Analyze membership data and industry trends to identify growth opportunities and optimize recruitment efforts.
  • Communicate ALA’s value proposition clearly and persuasively to prospective members and stakeholders.
  • Report on recruitment metrics, including application rates, conversion rates, and pipeline health.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure member benefits and services are integrated into recruitment messaging.
  • Gather feedback from law firms and legal organizations to improve recruitment processes and member services.
  • Serves as a staff liaison to ALA volunteer groups as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience: Proven experience in membership development, recruitment, or sales, preferably within an association or member-based organization.

Skills:

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and membership database management.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Highly organized with strong project and time management skills.
Performance Metrics
  • Achieve membership recruitment targets.
  • Increase conversion rate of prospects to members.
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of recruitment activities.
  • Experience with association management and member recruitment strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the legal industry and law firm operations a plus but not required.
