Seasonal Barge/Rail Facility Technician

This position supports barge and rail activities at a facility that loads and unloads barges, rail cars, and trucks. The role performs a wide variety of duties based on the daily needs of the operation.

• Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
• Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE.
• Execute deckhand duties such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, and tying off barges.
• Load barges to meet draft and quality requirements and oversee deckhand(s) as needed.
• Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations while maintaining grain quality during storage and transfer.
• Carry out rail duties, including preparation, unloading, loading, and placement of rail cars.
• Complete Scale/Probe Operations responsibilities when applicable.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and legible documentation.
• Perform general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other cleanup activities.
• Perform preventive maintenance or repairs on equipment, unload and clean barges, move product to storage, and handle heavy equipment for truck loading when required.
• Operate heavy equipment and perform other assignments as directed.
• Work extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• No prior experience required.
• Preferred: 1 year of experience in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of people.
• Ability to complete documentation requirements.
• Ability to follow directions and use logical thinking to interpret instructions and troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
• Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.

• Constantly balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat as needed.
• Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights.
• Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally or continuously, depending on the location.
• Use PPE and adhere to all required safety testing (PFT, fit testing, FRA, DOT) where applicable.
• Perform work in confined spaces and on barges with water.
• Walk on railcars, open gates, and operate vibrators when required.
• Work in environments with high dust levels, extreme weather, and high temperatures.
• Use near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception to identify grain issues.
• Perform tasks with focus and without distraction.

Base pay range: $17.00 – $17.00 per hour. Actual pay may vary based on location, experience, and other factors.
