Job Description:

Responsibilities
  • Provide world‑class support service by completing new customer installations, repairing equipment, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain high‑quality connectivity by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the headend, HFC and fiber optic networks, and home terminal units.
  • Repair local plant performance issues and customer‑owned equipment using electronic test equipment.
  • Read and interpret system/network design maps, verify as‑built documentation, compare field findings with existing documents, and report findings following company standards.
  • Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber optic cables, mount active and passive devices (both aerial and underground), activate devices, and test to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber‑optic plant to company, manufacturer, and design specifications.
  • Perform surveys to determine if customer‑requested locations are capable of receiving service and create maps/drawings to estimate costs for plant/drop extensions.
  • Perform underground facility locates accurately using plant maps and electronic locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruptions.
  • Execute construction maintenance duties, including splicing coaxial/fiber‑optic cables, restoring cable plant to system specification, repairing and/or replacing damaged equipment, and inspecting power supplies.
  • Continuously monitor plant for ingress/egress, perform signal leakage ride‑out activities, and track and repair signal leakage as necessary.
  • Train system technical personnel as directed by local system management.
Qualifications
  • One‑year certificate from college or technical school, or three to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully complete the Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within six months of accepting the position.
  • Working knowledge of signal level meters, voltage‑ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and other related test equipment.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of regulatory bodies such as FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, DOT, and local ordinances.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of employment.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or on‑call, and work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
