Seasonal Grain Elevator Operator - Barge Facility Tech

Job Summary

This role involves loading, unloading and maintaining grain barges and trucks within a fast‑paced outdoor environment.

• Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
• Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE.
• Perform deckhand responsibilities such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, tying off barges, etc.
• Load barges to meet draft and quality requirements and oversee deckhand(s).
• Transfer, load and move grain to appropriate locations while maintaining grain quality.
• Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
• Perform general clean‑up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting and other housekeeping duties.
• Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs where applicable.
• Unloading barges, cleaning barges, moving product to storage, loading trucks using heavy equipment, loading rail, and operating a variety of heavy equipment as required by the facility and location.

• High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• No prior experience required.
• Preferred: 1 year of experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
• Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to complete documentation requirements and follow directions.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.

• Constantly balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat.
• Frequently climb stairs and ladders.
• Operate in confined spaces and on barge surfaces.
• Lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally; may vary by location.
• Work in extreme weather conditions and high dust environments.
• Work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Travel 5–20% may be required for training or alternate sites.

Base pay range: $18.00 – $24.00 per hour.
