Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Assistant
To maintain district buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities in a safe, functional, clean, and attractive condition. The Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for preventative maintenance, grounds maintenance, facility repairs, event support, and operational inspections while ensuring district facilities remain safe and operational for students, staff, and visitors. This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of district grounds and exterior facilities while performing building maintenance, minor repairs, and custodial duties as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and other school facilities.
- Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs as directed.
- Set up and arrange classrooms, meeting spaces, and school events, including moving furniture and equipment.
- Assist with snow removal, ice control, lawn care, and general grounds maintenance.
- Monitor building systems and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
- Perform general upkeep and preventive maintenance throughout district facilities.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in a safe and organized manner.
- Follow all district safety procedures and applicable regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director, Maintenance Supervisor, or District Administration.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in facilities maintenance, grounds maintenance, construction trades, or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and grounds maintenance practices.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment, power tools, and grounds equipment.
- Valid Illinois driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond to emergencies.

Physical Demands:
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds on a regular basis (more with assistance), working outdoors in all weather conditions, and operating powered equipment.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather, dust, noise, chemicals, machinery, and other conditions commonly associated with school facilities maintenance.
Contract Length or Term of Employment:
Hours, work year, and salary to be established by the Board of Education. Evaluation of Performance Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Administration.
