Summary

The Lead Swim Instructor works with the Director of Racquets to support the Junior Aquatics Program, which includes swim, water polo, and diving. This role coordinates coach scheduling, practices, and meets or matches for each program. The Lead Swim Instructor provides instruction and guidance to participants and may offer private or group swim lessons to help members improve their skills. Additionally, this position serves as part of the lifeguard team, ensuring the safety of swimmers and guests in the pool area and administering first aid or lifesaving assistance when needed.

Responsibilities

Aquatics Program Leadership
  • Coordinate with the Director of Racquets to support the Junior Aquatics Program, including swim, water polo, and diving.
  • Schedule swim coaches, practices, and meets or matches for all aquatics programs.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to swim instructors and coaches to ensure consistent instruction and program quality.
  • Assist with planning and executing swim meets, clinics, and other aquatic events.
  • Monitor program participation and help foster a positive, inclusive team environment.
Swim Instruction & Coaching
  • Provide private and group swim lessons for youth and adult members.
  • Teach proper swimming techniques, water safety, and skill development appropriate to participant ability levels.
  • Create structured lesson plans and training activities to support swimmer progression.
  • Encourage confidence, sportsmanship, and skill development in all participants.
Safety & Pool Operations
  • Serve as an active member of the lifeguard team to ensure the safety of swimmers and guests.
  • Monitor the pool area to maintain a safe environment and enforce Club pool rules.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including water rescues and administering first aid or CPR when necessary.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of pool equipment and report any hazards or maintenance concerns.
Member Service & Communication
  • Provide professional, friendly service to members and guests.
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff regarding program schedules, progress, and safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Racquets and the Aquatics staff to support overall pool operations.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strong swimming ability and knowledge of competitive and instructional swim techniques.
  • Ability to teach and motivate swimmers of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Excellent observation skills and ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to manage schedules and coordinate program activities.
  • Dependable, responsible, and attentive to safety.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications required.
  • Swim instructor or coaching certification preferred.
  • Previous experience as a swim instructor, coach, or lifeguard required.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Expected Work Hours

This position may be seasonal or year-round, depending on Club Aquatics operations. Flexible availability is required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
