Kankakee Valley REMC

Kankakee Valley REMC is seeking a dependable, self-motivated, and mechanically inclined individual to join our team as a Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician.

The Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building and grounds maintenance, assisting with warehouse operations, and supporting compliance with safety and OSHA standards. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Facilities & Grounds Maintenance
  • Perform building and grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed eating, fertilizer application, weed control, and snow removal
  • Complete general building maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing furnace filters, and minor repairs
  • Operate equipment including (but not limited to): forklift, skid steer, riding mower, pick-up truck with trailer, floor scrubber, and power tools
  • Assist the Warehouse Coordinator as needed
  • Open to obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Warehouse & Administrative Support
  • Maintain OSHA compliance standards within the warehouse
  • Follow and stay informed on all REMC safety standards
  • Report potential problems or safety concerns to the Warehouse Coordinator
  • Develop working knowledge of materials used for REMC projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned
The employee must be able to:
  • Regularly lift materials, tools, and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more
  • Push or pull materials to load and unload within the warehouse
  • Climb stairs and ladders
  • Work in awkward positions, including stooping and bending
  • Inspect warehouse and equipment to ensure safe working conditions
  • Occasionally work around blood borne pathogens and chemical contaminants
Additional Requirements
  • Regular verbal and written communication with others
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT regulations and REMC policies
Work Schedule & Classification
  • Day shift position
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required due to business needs, emergencies, or snow removal
  • Non-exempt position
  • On-site role
Education & Training
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Familiarity with basic tools and equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Ability to organize work logically and efficiently
  • Willingness to obtain a CDL

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work in a warehouse and grounds environment.
