About Redbird State Recreation Area
The Redbird State Recreation Area is a former coal mine that focuses on off‑road vehicle recreation. It encompasses 1,500 acres of former surface and underground coal mine land, providing miles of trails for all skill levels—from gentle slopes to technically challenging terrain. The park also offers fishing lakes, hiking, mushrooming, and mountain bike access.
Salary StatementThe hourly wage for seasonal positions varies, starting at $12.25/hour.
A Day In The Life- Attendants:
Provides quality customer service at assigned property stations, collecting revenue from fees and permits, and handling cash/credit card duties. - Concessions:
Provides quality customer service at concession stands, beach houses, or other locations as needed, selling location‑specific items (firewood, food, rentals, etc.), handling cash/credit payments, collecting fees & permits, and reporting inventory. - Housekeepers:
Maintains and cleans property buildings, grounds, and facilities, including regular deep cleaning of restrooms, showers, and other property buildings. - Laborers:
Maintains and repairs property buildings, grounds, and facilities, performing landscaping, mowing, firewood processing, structure maintenance, sign creation, trail upkeep, carpentry, and plumbing as required. - Office Assistants:
Answers inquiries about the property and provides quality customer service to park visitors; assists property management with operations and administrative functions. - Clerks:
Supports property staff with inventory, stocking, reporting, budgeting, and other administrative duties. - Security Officers:
Monitors visitor activity, reports problems to property management or authorities, patrols the property, and enforces regulations courteously; provides security for facilities, construction sites, and logging operations, including late‑night visits to areas prone to vandalism or illegal activity. - DOC Crew Supervisors:
Monitors the activities of Department of Corrections work‑release crew members and participates in labor duties as needed; provides transportation for the crew. - Shooting Range Officers (Brookville Lake Only):
Monitors visitors using the shooting range, provides quality customer service and education on safe gun handling, enforces shooting range SOPs, and maintains basic safety and equipment.

What You'll Need For Success- High school diploma, GED, or one (1) year of work experience.
- Expected to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to wear a DNR‑provided uniform.
- May be required to travel to different properties.
- May experience work in inclement weather.
- May work with DOC work‑release crews.
- May be required to have a valid driver’s license.
- May perform duties in various environments, including offices, fields, rugged terrain, and adverse weather (extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet, etc.).
- May work around potentially dangerous heavy equipment (e.g., tractors, disks, mowers, planters).
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
