POSITION

PURPOSE:

Toprovidestudentsandstaffwithasafe,attractive,comfortable,cleanandefficientplaceinwhichtolearn,work,playanddevelop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  • Perform painting duties as required.
  • Shovel, plow, and sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate.
  • Checks daily to ensure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • Raise the United States flag or raise it before 8:00 A.M. each school day, and lower it after 3:30 P.M.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dust furniture.
  • Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when conditions require it.
  • Scrubs, wet mops, and disinfect restroom floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
  • Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
  • Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
  • Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
  • Make such minor building repairs as she/he is capable of.
  • Report major repairs needed promptly to the Head Custodian.
  • Maintain a regular schedule for all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
  • Report immediately to the Head Custodian or Principal any damage to school property.
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance required by the principal (except during thirty (30) minute dinner break).
  • Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving that all door and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the Head Custodian far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties.
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, paints and fuels.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safe condition of the swimming pool, making all the necessary water tests, backwashing the filters, and refilling the pool as necessary.
  • Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
  • Performs any necessary clean-ups as emergency may dictate.
  • Sweeps, mops, wet washes, and vacuums floors in assigned areas.
  • Assists in monitoring student discipline as appropriate.
  • Other duties assigned by the principal.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    High School Diploma or Equivalent.

    Ability to plan and organize.

    Skills in human relations.

    Demonstrates aptitude for cleaning, minor mechanical repair, and good work habits.

    Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

    Such alternatives to above qualifications as the Board of School Trustees may find appropriate and approve.
