Job Title

Custodian I – Sycamore Housing, Indiana State University

Job Summary

Executes basic custodial tasks to keep buildings in clean and orderly condition.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday 7:00am- 3:30pm; some weekends and overtime may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Mops and sweeps hallways, stairs, labs, office space, and residential facilities.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture.
  • Maintains hard floors by scrubbing, buffing, stripping, and refinishing.
  • Cleans restrooms and stocks restroom supplies.
  • Empties tenants’ trash and garbage containers and processes recycle materials.
  • Notifies management concerning need for repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: 6 months of custodial experience.
  • Valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for reasons other than practical training (OPT or CPT).
  • No visa sponsorship will be provided.
  • Must be able to perform essential duties; reasonable accommodations may be made.

    Accrues at a rate of 12 days per fiscal year with unlimited accumulation.

    Coverage based on two and one-half times appointment salary, capped at $100,000;
    University pays the cost.

    Cost shared; available from the first of the month following appointment.

    Employee share 3%; employer share determined annually; vesting after 10 years.

    New employees automatically enrolled in a tax‑deferred retirement program; 3% deducted before taxes.
  • Long‑Term Disability Coverage
    :
    Eligibility after 3 years; 66 ⅔ % income protection after 180 days of total disability.
  • Fee Waiver Program
    :
    Staff may enroll up to 18 hours of coursework each academic year at reduced rate; spouses 15 semester hours with 80% tuition waiver; eligible dependent children may receive 80% waiver up to ten semesters.
  • Vacation
    : 12–20 days per year based on years of service.
  • Convenience Day
    :
    One per fiscal year.
