GENERAL SUMMARY

It is the responsibility of the Airport Maintenance Worker (Airfield) to perform general maintenance on the airfield, roads, grounds, and buildings at all facilities owned or operated by the IAA. Maintenance tasks include, but not limited to, pavement repair, fence repair, and general upkeep of grounds or buildings. Must participate in snow removal activities. Perform any and all other tasks as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cut grass, control weeds, remove trees, mix chemicals, operate large equipment (mowers, bucket truck, stump grinder, etc.).
  • Assist Electricians, Mechanics, Stock Room, Building Maintenance Workers, and Painters in the performance of their functions in all facilities at the airport.
  • On call from November through March for snow removal duties as required.
  • Perform minor and major repairs as directed by the Supervisor or Group Leader.
  • Operate trucks, power sweepers, forklifts, tractors, backhoe, front end loader, snow removal equipment, water blast removal equipment.
  • Build forms and pour concrete, finish concrete.
  • Report any unusual security situations to the Safety Department.
  • Make major and minor repairs to pavement, drainage systems, and out-buildings.
  • Maintain appearance by corrosion control of all airport equipment.
  • Maintain landscaped areas (spray, fertilize, turf).
  • Animal Control.
  • Aircraft recovery and emergency response team.
  • Security.
  • Perform any other functions assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or successful completion of high school equivalency exam.
  • Knowledge and proper use of power tools and equipment used in maintenance and construction work.
  • Ability to perform all the physical and cognitive tasks outlined in the job description.
  • One-year prior experience in operating light duty construction vehicles and tractors.
  • One-year experience in minor construction and grounds maintenance or any combination of education experience that provides the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the position.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND CONDITIONS
  • Ability to obtain and Maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Class

    B) and Forklift certification.
  • Demonstrated good driving record.
  • Ability to perform all the essential function of the job outlined above without creating a direct threat to the safety of oneself or others.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Operate all motor vehicles and airport equipment heavy equipment (brooms, tractors, etc.).
  • Operate small equipment and power tools.
  • Lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
  • Climb, craw, walk, sit, stand, pull, push, stoop, bend, squat, stretch.
  • Have full physical dexterity and agility.
  • Write, talk, see hear.
  • Operate airport radio.
  • Operate modern technically advanced, computerized machinery.
  • Operate modern, technically advanced, computerized snow removal equipment.
COGNITIVE TASKS
  • Read and comprehend.
  • Comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Exercise good judgment.
  • Inspect.
  • Effectively communicate over the radio with ATC, Police, Fire, Dispatch.
