Custodian

Position: Staff Custodian (2026-2027 School Year)
Position Summary

Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking dependable and service-minded Custodians to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming school environments for students and staff. In this role, you will clean classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and common areas; perform floor care and carpet cleaning; remove trash; maintain school grounds; assist with basic building maintenance; support building security by locking and unlocking facilities; and help move supplies, equipment, and furniture as needed.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys staying active throughout the day, and understands the important role a clean and healthy school environment plays in student success.

Who Will Be Successful in This Position?

We're looking for someone who:

* Has custodial, housekeeping, environmental services, or facilities experience

* Has experience in a school, healthcare facility, commercial building, or similar environment preferred

* Is a self-starter who takes initiative without constant supervision

* Is dependable, reliable, and looking for long-term stability and growth

* Has a strong work ethic and takes pride in maintaining high standards

* Understands that providing a clean, safe, and healthy environment directly impacts student outcomes

* Works well independently and as part of a team

* Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and a positive attitude

Qualifications

Required

* High School Diploma or GED

* Up to three (3) months of custodial, housekeeping, or related experience

Preferred

* School, healthcare, or commercial custodial experience

* Basic maintenance knowledge

Physical Requirements

* This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and performing custodial tasks throughout the workday.
