• Mows, trims and maintains parks, cemeteries, open‑space areas such as pickle ball courts, skate parks, playgrounds, picnic areas, weeds, and debris.
• Performs general custodial work in city community buildings, City Hall, and parks/cemetery maintenance facilities.
• Assists the Recreation Department as assigned.
• Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and restrooms.
• Sweeps, washes, paints and repairs or replaces park tables and slabs.
• Performs semi‑skilled building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled/semi‑skilled trades work.
• Maintains and services equipment and tools used for park and cemetery operations, including cleaning and inspection before and after use.
• Operates specialized turf‑care and construction equipment (backhoe, tractors, mowers, loaders, tillers, pumps, gas trimmers, lawn and power equipment).
• Performs grounds maintenance such as seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and planting of lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Applies herbicides and other chemicals for pest and weed control of parks and cemeteries.
• Operates tractors, backhoes, mowers, weed trimmers, jackhammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed.
• Continually maintains current skills and knowledge of safe building and grounds‑maintenance techniques.
• Performs custodial duties, including changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, sweeping floors, vacuuming carpets, mopping, shampooing and steam‑cleaning carpets, buffing non‑carpeted areas, dumping garbage, re‑lining cans, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, replenishing supplies, emptying ash cans, cleaning spills, cleaning drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, dusting furniture, washing windows, walls, metal and woodwork, cleaning rain gutters, and sweeping roofs.
• Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds and picks up litter from premises.
• Opens and closes (locks and unlocks) facilities as needed.
• Sets up and takes down equipment for various programs or activities, preparing facilities for such events.
• Assists in scheduling burials, selling grave plots, coordinating plot ownership with the city clerk, recording burials, researching burial records, checking lots, locating graves, and assisting with opening and closing grave sites and equipment.
• Handles public‑relations and marketing duties related to burial site selection and payment, provides guidance to funeral directors, fields questions, concerns, and complaints from the public, communicates official plans, policies, and procedures, and consults with bereaved families as required.
• Lays out burial sites for digging graves, placement of cemetery markers and monuments, and assists with marker placement.
• Assists in new construction of facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.
