Job SummaryUnder supervision, keeps assigned building area clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly; secures rooms and cleaning stations; does special cleaning. May perform minor maintenance and painting duties. The incumbent performs related duties as required. During the school year, positions may be assigned to early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, or night shifts.
Responsibilities- Sweep, mop, scrub, shampoo, and wax floors of various surface types.
- Vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
- Dust, wax, wash, and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, shelves, cupboards, and counters.
- Clean walls, blackboards, restrooms, locker rooms, showers, and windows.
- Empty trash and waste cans and restock supplies.
- Move furniture and equipment; set up rooms and auditoriums for special meetings and activities; and may set up and open areas for special events.
- Ensure all doors and windows in the assigned area are locked, alarms are set, and necessary security lights are on.
- Perform minor maintenance such as replacing lights, painting small rooms or trim, removing or tagging broken furniture, and reporting vandalism or items needing repair.
- Perform outside maintenance including snow removal, mowing, weeding, irrigating, and picking up litter.
- Participate in intensive cleaning and restoration of district buildings during summer vacations and other periods: wash and remove/fold furniture; wash walls and woodwork; paint interior and exterior walls; strip floors using power equipment; and seal and wax floors.
- Be available on off‑hours for school emergencies such as burglaries, vandalism, snow removal, equipment failures, fires, flooding, and similar incidents.

Experience:
Six (6) months of experience demonstrating reliability, responsibility, and good work habits. - Knowledge of reading, writing, basic arithmetic, and cleaning materials, methods, and equipment.
- Skills in understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; learning to use supplies, equipment, and prescribed methods of cleaning; performing strenuous physical work; working effectively under time limitations and without immediate supervision; climbing and working from ladders; making simple arithmetic calculations; and developing working relationships with colleagues.
- License/
Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. - Special Considerations:
Ability to work under occasional adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, dust, and fumes.

Benefit packages are available for all employees. Eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits. Temporary employees working less than six months do not qualify for benefits.
SalarySch A: $16.86 (entry step) – $20.27 (entry step). Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase or decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.
