Primary Function:
Maintain the building and areas of responsibility clean and sanitary in order to meet proper district standards.
- Sweeps, dusts and mops rooms and hallways daily or as routinely required.
- Dusts and cleans furniture routinely.
- Cleans all glass on a routine basis or more frequently if needed.
- Makes repairs as needed on furniture, light fixtures, doors, windows, window shades, lockers, and any other things that need fixing in all areas of responsibility. If unable to make the needed repair, secures needed help.
- Cleans and disinfects all restrooms and showers at least daily making sure that all fixtures are operating correctly and that needed soap and paper products are provided. Checks restroom several times daily and cleans as needed. Keep all restroom areas clean and free of odors.
- Removes all marks and writings on district infrastructure in a timely manner. Repairs vandalism in areas of responsibility in a timely manner.
- Maintains a neat, clean and appropriate personal appearance.
- Maintains confidentiality with student and school information, both while on and off duty.
- Follows school safety and crisis plans as identified by the administration.
- Maintains an appropriate and professional working relationship with teachers, secretaries, classroom associates, peers, and other school employees and stakeholders.
- Maintains an appropriate and professional staff member/student relationship with all students in the building and on campus. Reports all problems with students to building administration and to immediate supervisor.
- Keep entryway areas clean, including mats, windows, floors and doors.
- Follows chain of command to report problems and/or areas of concern at all times.
- Keeps sidewalks, ramps, steps and all walkway areas clean and clear of ice and snow.
- Keeps all exterior areas of responsibility clean and in good repair including fences, playground and playground equipment.
- Secures all areas of responsibility by ensuring all doors and windows are locked at appropriate scheduled times.
- Notifies appropriate school personnel before departure when leaving the building for any reason while on duty.
- Contacts maintenance supervisor when ill giving adequate leave time, if possible, so that a substitute can be obtained.
- Ensures that environmental systems (boilers, air conditioning equipment, water heaters, etc.) are operational and efficient. Notifies maintenance supervisor if any abnormalities are found.
- Responsible for set-up and take-down for special events as requested by district administration.
- Responsible for mowing all lawns and maintaining the grounds during the year. This includes trimming bushes and small trees and keeping the grounds free of trash and debris.
- Willing to learn and enthusiastically looks forward to new job-related challenges.
- Constantly aware of buildings and grounds conditions and is able to see what needs to be done in a timely manner in order to keep the school environment clean and sanitary.
- Works as a team player on the District Custodial Team throughout the entire year.
- All other duties as assigned.
