summary

under supervision, in charge of maintaining assigned building areas clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly. Responsibilities include securing rooms and cleaning stations, performing special cleaning tasks, and providing minor maintenance and painting duties as needed. The incumbent may be assigned to early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, or night shifts during the school year. Additional duties include responding to emergencies such as burglaries, vandalism, and weather‑related incidents.

All duties are performed as required by the supervisor.

responsibilities
  • sweeps, mops, scrubs, shampoos, and waxes floors of various surfaces; vacuums and cleans rugs and carpets; dusts, waxes, washes, and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures, shelves, cupboards, and counters; cleans walls and blackboards.
  • sanitizes restrooms, locker rooms, and showers; fills soap and paper dispensers; washes windows; empties trash and waste cans; and restocks supplies.
  • moves furniture and equipment, setting up rooms and auditoriums for special meetings and activities; opens areas for special events.
  • ensures all doors and windows in assigned areas are locked, alarms are set, and security lights are on.
  • performs minor maintenance: replaces lights, paints small rooms or trim, removes or tags broken furniture; reports vandalism and repair needs; may conduct outside maintenance such as snow removal, mowing, weeding, irrigating, and litter pickup.
  • participates in intensive cleaning and restoration during summer vacations and other periods; washes, removes, and stacks furniture; paints interior and exterior walls; strips floors with power equipment; and seals and waxes floors.
  • may be called upon during off‑hours for emergencies such as burglaries, vandalism, snow removal, equipment failures, fires, and flooding.
qualifications
  • education/experience: equivalent combination of education and experience providing required knowledge and skills; typically six months demonstrating reliability, responsibility, and good work habits.
  • knowledge: reading, writing, and basic arithmetic sufficient to perform job duties; knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, and equipment.
  • skills: ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; learn supplies, equipment, and prescribed cleaning methods; perform strenuous physical work; work effectively under time limits and without supervision; climb and work from ladders; make simple arithmetic calculations; develop working relationships with coworkers and others contacted in course of work.
  • license/certification: possession or ability to obtain a valid state of nevada driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • special considerations: willingness to work under occasional adverse environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, dust, and fumes.
