Location: Nevada
Overview
These positions are located in Fallon, Nevada and surrounding areas. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The hours are subject to change and may be five 8‑hour shifts or four 10‑hour shifts. These positions may require working in inclement weather.
These positions will be utilized for summer season employment, not to exceed six months.
Responsibilities- Assist in routine maintenance duties, including pavement surface, shoulders, clear zones, and associated roadways in good repair.
- Participate in summer betterment projects and emergency operations.
- Perform unskilled tasks associated with highway maintenance, construction, testing labs, and equipment shops.
- Follow oral and written instructions and perform moderate strength physical tasks.
- Set up and remove traffic control devices; act as flagger and operate a pilot vehicle during roadway maintenance.
- Pick up debris, empty litter barrels, control vegetation near highways, bridges, fences, signs, and buildings.
- Remove weeds, mow turf; assist maintenance crews during routine tasks such as fence, sign, guardrail repair, and minor surface patching using hand and power tools.
- Prepare and set survey stakes, chains, rods, or serve as flagger on a survey crew; assist inspectors with minor inspection duties such as constructing fences, drainage structures, or weighing trucks.
- Assist field testers performing sieve analysis, compaction tests, or other required field lab tests. Assist office personnel with required documentation for construction projects.
- Assist staff in testing materials meeting highway construction and maintenance specifications; investigate gravel sources; perform soil surveys; prepare records and reports; maintain tools and equipment.
- Clean shop areas by sweeping, mopping, collecting debris; assist mechanics by cleaning parts; assist stockroom personnel by picking up parts from local vendors and organizing stock; clean vehicles.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Ability to understand and follow simple verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform moderate physical labor for extended periods.
- Ability to use common hand and power tools.
