Job Summary
The Barn Maintenance is responsible for maintaining the operational condition of the poultry barns, equipment, and other physical assets of the farm. The incumbent monitors all periodic equipment and system maintenance, preventive maintenance, and assists with repairing broken equipment as needed.
Essential Job Functions- Monitor and perform maintenance on ventilation systems, including baffles and fans.
- Monitor and perform maintenance on housing systems, including water systems, feeders, and manure removal systems.
- Monitor and perform maintenance on systems, including augers, chains, egg collectors, and cross conveyors.
- Understand and follow all SOPs related to the job while maintaining a safe work environment following all lockout‑tagout procedures.
- Maintain tools and the shop area in a clean and organized manner.
- Report any food safety and quality issues to a direct supervisor/manager.
- Ensure that health and safety regulations are met.
- Ensure biosecurity protocols are being followed.
- Maintain inventory on parts available and communicate parts needed to supervisor/manager.
- Repair and perform preventive maintenance of the production equipment.
- Answer and address alarms.
- Ensure medication systems of the houses are functioning properly and medication schedules and dosages are correct.
- Conduct the weekly facility test, including generators and alarms.
- Communicate effectively with all team members.
- Communicate with the company night guard, ensuring all issues that occurred throughout the night are corrected in a timely manner, while also covering the shift if needed.
- Prioritize daily tasks/projects correctly (feed, air, water before all other duties).
- Communicate effectively with the Production Manager and Production Supervisors and assist with efficiencies.
- Comply with FDA, USDA, DNR rules and regulations, including Hen Haven's biosecurity policies and procedures, good manufacturing practices, and food defense programs.
- Be on‑call for all breakdowns.
- Complete all other tasks as requested by direct supervisor/manager.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics preferred.
- Previous maintenance experience in the poultry industry preferred.
- Electrical troubleshooting and repair experience preferred.
- Reading and comprehension skills necessary to read, understand and follow SOPs and other written instructions or work details.
- English reading and writing abilities.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively and well with all levels of employees and management.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize work.
- Ability to work weekends and holiday hours is required based on production demand.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull 75+ lbs.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, bend, lift and twist on different surfaces, including concrete.
- Can withstand uncomfortable conditions such as heat when working in the barn and cold when working outside during winter.
