Power Plant Engineer 3
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a Power Plant Engineer 3 to join our team! This is a full-time position with a Tuesday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. schedule.
This position operates and repairs steam generating boilers and electrical generating equipment. Knowledge of plant safety and accident prevention measures required for operating, maintaining, and repairing all heating or power plant equipment, chemical water testing and treatment methods, and procedures used to prevent scaling, pitting of boiler tubes, and buildup of sludge deposits is essential in this role. The ideal candidate will have experience with steam generating boilers, electrical generating equipment and auxiliary systems, and centralized air conditioning systems, performing related work as required.
The Engineer must have the ability to physically operate, adjust, and control steam and electrical generating systems, requiring climbing, lifting, bending, and walking.
Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.
CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well.

CMHI is located in Cherokee, a city of approximately 5,000 set in the beautiful Little Sioux River Valley in Northwest Iowa.
