Position Summary

The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising electrical maintenance activities within a steel manufacturing environment. This position provides frontline leadership to electrical maintenance employees and ensures that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established maintenance, production, environmental, and quality standards.

The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and prioritizing electrical maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and availability while supporting safe and efficient steel mill operations. The position works closely with Operations, Mechanical Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, and other support functions to identify and resolve equipment issues and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities/Safety Leadership
  • Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure all electrical maintenance activities are performed in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and participate in safety meetings, job safety analyses, and workplace inspections.
  • Ensure proper application of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safe work practices, arc flash requirements, and other energy-control procedures.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Promote a culture in which employees actively participate in hazard identification and risk reduction.
  • Supervision and Leadership
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, coaching, and support to electrical maintenance employees.
  • Assign daily work and coordinate manpower to support planned maintenance, corrective maintenance, and production requirements.
  • Monitor work quality, productivity, attendance, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Develop employee skills through coaching, mentoring, training, and performance feedback.
  • Support employee development and progression within the electrical maintenance organization.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration between maintenance personnel, operations, engineering, and management.
  • Administer applicable policies, procedures, and labor agreements in a fair and consistent manner.
Maintenance and Reliability
  • Coordinate preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency electrical maintenance activities.
  • Ensure maintenance work is properly planned, scheduled, and executed to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Work closely with Maintenance Planning and Reliability personnel to improve equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Review equipment failures and recurring problems and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance procedures, equipment reliability, and electrical system performance.
  • Support the development and execution of shutdown, outage, and major maintenance work.
Technical Responsibilities

Provide leadership and technical support for the maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial electrical and automation systems, including:

  • Medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Motors, motor controls, and motor control centers (MCCs).
  • Variable frequency drives (VFDs) and DC drives.
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
