The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a Laundry Worker 1 to join our team! This is a full-time position witha Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. schedule.
This position provides laundry and housekeeping services for CMHI and the Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO).
Laundry duties:- Collect, sort, and load laundry into washing machines using correct cycle program.
- Load clean, wet laundry into dryer, using dials for correct drying cycle.
- Record water temperatures throughout shift and document cleaning supply usage and weights of laundry cleaned.
- Monitor cleaning chemicals and equipment andreset alarms as needed.
- Sort customer laundry (e.g.contract accounts, CCUSO, misc.) and deliver to various departments in the hospital.
- Fold laundry and restock shelves.
- Perform minor maintenance on machines and report major mechanical issues to supervisor.
- Sweep, mop, and clean laundry room tomaintainsanitary working environment.
- Sweep, dust, mop, and scrub floors and stairs with appropriate equipment.
- Dust and clean furniture, counters, shelving, window ledges, and door handles using cloths and proper cleaning chemicals.
- Dust and mop walls, ceilings, and partitions with cloths, wetmops,and proper cleaning chemicals.
- Shampoo or spot clean carpets and rugs using proper equipment.
- Clean bathrooms and fixtures with cloths, brushes, and proper cleansers and sanitizing solutions.
- Collect and dispose of trash in garbage receptacles in pick-up areas.
- Move furniture, lamps, and other fixtures for cleaning as needed.
Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.
CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan.
