Sanitation Worker / Sanitizer Associate
Job Description
This role is responsible for maintaining all plant surfaces and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition throughout the shift in a food manufacturing environment. You follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) under the guidance of the Sanitation and Quality Assurance teams, support food safety programs, and ensure safe and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
2nd shift- 1pm to 9:30pm - $20.25
3rd shift - 9pm to 6:30am - $20.50
ResponsibilitiesMaintain all plant surfaces, equipment, restrooms, break rooms, and trash areas in a clean and sanitary condition throughout the shift.
Execute GMP and SSOP procedures in alignment with food safety and USDA pre-operational requirements.
Follow Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety guidelines during all sanitation activities.
Use, store, and secure cleaning chemicals properly, including mixing, handling, and disposal according to established protocols.
Complete and maintain sanitation logs, cleaning schedules, and pest control records accurately and on time.
Support food safety programs, including controls for allergens, traceability, and prevention of cross-contamination.
Prevent cross-contamination and water damage by following proper cleaning, rinsing, and drying procedures.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, trash areas, and other common spaces as assigned.
Assist with equipment preparation before and after sanitation, including disassembly and reassembly where required.
Lead by example in uniform, hygiene, and safety compliance, including adherence to GMP attire and PPE requirements.
Assist in water conservation efforts by using sanitation water efficiently and following established conservation practices.
Report equipment malfunctions, missing parts, unsafe conditions, or potential hazards promptly to the appropriate personnel.
Adapt to shift changes and schedule adjustments while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Read and complete sanitation records and cleaning schedules in accordance with Quality Assurance guidelines.
Use cleaning equipment and tools safely and effectively, including high-pressure hoses and other sanitation devices.
Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and report issues.
Manage time effectively to complete all assigned cleaning tasks within the scheduled shift.
Follow all safety procedures when working near moving mechanical parts and in wet or slippery conditions.
Experience working with cleaning equipment and chemicals in a production or sanitation environment.
Knowledge of food processing and food safety practices, including GMP and SSOP guidelines.
Experience working closely with food or in a food manufacturing setting.
Ability to lift 3040 lbs regularly and meet physical demands such as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs continuously, 40 lbs frequently, and exert up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Comfort working on your feet for extended periods in a fast-paced environment.
Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and teamwork skills with a customer service mindset.
Ability to read and interpret safety and procedure documents in English.
Ability to read and complete sanitation records and cleaning schedules per Quality Assurance guidelines.
Ability to make sound decisions, manage time effectively, and use equipment safely and efficiently.
Comfortable working under GMP guidelines, including wearing a smock, hair net, PPE, and refraining from jewelry or makeup.
Excellent attendance and dependability.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience in janitorial, general labor, or sanitizing roles, particularly within food manufacturing.
Familiarity with Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) safety practices.
Experience completing sanitation logs, pest control records, and other compliance documentation.
Ability to adapt to different shifts, including early morning, afternoon, and overnight schedules.
Spanish language skills are a plus for reading or communicating in a bilingual environment.
