The Maintenance Technician II / Maintenance Planner is Stahl’s primary maintenance resource for the Itasca and Thorndale facilities. The role combines hands-on maintenance with preventive maintenance planning, work-order administration, contractor coordination, and spare-parts support to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations across two shifts.
Key Responsibilities Management of Maintenance Activities (65%)- Perform safe, compliant mechanical, basic plumbing, and non-licensed electrical maintenance, including work on pumps, valves, rotating equipment, piping, fixtures, outlets, wiring, and facility systems.
- Troubleshoot failures, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and maintain equipment reliability to support production quality and service.
- Support the installation, commissioning, and start-up of new equipment and processes with operations and engineering.
- Manage site assets, contractors, and service providers to sustain reliable performance and continuous improvement within approved budgets.
- Own the preventive maintenance program; prioritize requests based on safety, business risk, and operational impact.
- Develop job plans covering scope, labor, tools, permits, contractors, materials, and estimated duration.
- Maintain weekly and monthly schedules and a prioritized, work-ready backlog in coordination with operations and production.
- Complete work promptly, resolve equipment and facility issues, and support both shifts, including flexible or off-shift response when required.
- Drive continuous improvement to increase reliability, reduce downtime and costs, and improve maintenance efficiency.
- Use the CMMS to create, track, update, and close work orders and maintenance requests.
- Maintain accurate asset records, equipment histories, maintenance plans, task lists, and documentation.
- Monitor PM compliance, work completion, backlog health, and performance indicators; report results and recommend improvements.
- Obtain quotes, coordinate contractors, and ensure parts, materials, tools, and services are available before scheduled work.
- Support spare-parts inventory, reordering, purchasing, maintenance budgets, and cost control.
- Implement and support maintenance and reliability projects while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
- Promote a collaborative work environment and coordinate effectively with operations, production, contractors, leadership, and other teams.
- Communicate priorities, schedules, downtime requirements, and follow-up actions clearly and proactively.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; related technical certification, trade-school, military technical training, or associate degree preferred.
- At least five years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in chemical, process, or distribution operations.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, planning, scheduling, equipment troubleshooting, contractor coordination, and manufacturing maintenance practices.
- Ability to interpret manuals, schematics, drawings, and equipment documentation; analyze issues and follow safety protocols.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, use required manual dexterity, support two shifts, and respond outside normal hours when needed.
- Strong mechanical repair and troubleshooting skills involving pumps, valves, piping, motors, and rotating equipment, plus basic non-licensed electrical and plumbing capability.
- Proficiency in planning, scheduling, work-order and backlog management, SAP PM or another CMMS, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and timely problem-solving skills;
Spanish proficiency is a plus.
