Overview

The Cleaning Team Member – Part Time plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and student‑ready campus environment that supports learning, belonging, and student success. Guided by a Human First philosophy and the College’s Maroon & Gold Standards (MGS), this position helps ensure that instructional, student‑service, and common spaces are clean, secure, and well‑maintained—contributing directly to students’ ability to focus, persist, and succeed.

A general janitorial and housekeeping role that includes cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, and other campus facilities. Responsibilities may include vacuuming, mopping, trash removal, floor care, restroom sanitation, event setup, snow removal support, and operating custodial equipment and cleaning tools.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail‑oriented, customer service focused, and able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Functions
  • Help maintain clean, orderly, and safe environments that reduce barriers to learning and engagement.
  • Contribute to a welcoming campus atmosphere that supports student belonging, comfort, and retention.
  • Interact with students, employees, and visitors in a courteous, respectful, and service‑oriented manner.
  • Support campus events and activities that enhance student experience and community engagement.
  • Demonstrate care, pride, and accountability in maintaining spaces used by students, employees, and visitors.
  • Sweep, mop and dust interior areas of buildings, wash walls, windows, woodwork, furniture and light fixtures; strip and polish hard surface floors; vacuum and clean carpet; empty waste containers and dispose of waste materials; clean and sanitize toilet rooms, showers, and drinking fountains.
  • Clean areas around and entrances to buildings including snow removal and salting.
  • Unlock/lock and secure interior rooms in buildings.
  • Assist with event set up/tear down and building maintenance as required.
  • Assist with campus recycling initiatives.
  • Understand, support and actively demonstrate the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision; be in agreement to be evaluated by the same.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Contacts and Purpose of Contacts
  • Internal:
    Regular contact with employees of Facilities Department for information and problem‑solving.
  • External:
    Limited contact with students and general public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of: Current cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used to maintain safe, healthy, and welcoming facilities for students, employees, and visitors; custodial practices, machinery, and related equipment that support consistent service quality and operational excellence; occupational hazards, safety precautions, and regulatory requirements necessary to protect the well‑being of the campus community; proper operation, routine maintenance, and basic care of cleaning equipment to ensure reliable and efficient service delivery.
  • Skills and Abilities: Read, understand, and follow safety procedures and material safety data sheets; understand and carry out oral and written instructions in support of daily operations, campus events, and student‑facing activities; communicate effectively and respectfully, both orally and in writing; work collaboratively as a team member to support a positive campus climate and shared responsibility for student success; safely and responsibly use cleaning equipment and supplies while demonstrating care, stewardship, and attention to detail;

    perform a variety of custodial and cleaning tasks in a manner that supports clean, orderly, and student‑ready facilities.
  • Experience in a related position (usually one or more years).
Required Education, Licensure, Certification, Registration or Other Requirements

Valid driver’s license.

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must regularly lift up to twenty‑five (25) pounds and occasionally lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

Work Environment

Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. Noise level is usually moderate.
