Position Purpose

Teton Science Schools is a mission-driven nonprofit organization that connects people, nature, and community through place-based education.

The Facilities Specialist provides hands-on maintenance and facilities support across Teton Science Schools campuses, employee housing, grounds, vehicles, and shared spaces. Reporting to the Senior Director of Facilities & Projects, this role completes routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, work orders, seasonal projects, and other facilities needs to help keep TSS spaces safe, functional, and well maintained.

Responsibilities
  • Complete facilities work orders, routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and address basic building, plumbing, carpentry, painting, hardware, and general maintenance needs
  • Support employee housing turnover, inspections, repairs, setup, and unit readiness
  • Assist with snow removal, grounds maintenance, seasonal projects, and campus readiness
  • Support vehicle, equipment, and facilities inspections and maintenance
  • Identify safety concerns or larger repair needs and communicate them to the Senior Director of Facilities & Projects
  • Maintain organized tools, equipment, supplies, work areas, and maintenance records
  • Assist with facilities projects, furniture moves, deliveries, event setup, and other operational needs
  • Communicate professionally with employees, residents, vendors, and contractors
  • Participate in the Property Management on-call rotation as needed
Qualifications
  • 2 or more years of experience in facilities, maintenance, construction, property management, trades, or a related field preferred
  • Hands-on experience with maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools
  • Clear communication and customer service skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive between TSS locations
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred or ability to obtain within the first 90 days
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements

This is a campus-based, hands-on position requiring regular work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role requires the ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform physical tasks including bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, moving materials, basic repairs, snow removal, and housing turnover support.

Occasional early morning, evening, weekend, holiday, or urgent response work may be required.
