Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities

Applicants may be considered for other current or anticipated vacancies within Jefferson City School District for which they are qualified. Additional positions may become available as a result of internal transfers, promotions, or departmental restructuring. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and a high school graduate
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of maintenance or facility experience. A college degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, management or licensed in one of the trades or a related field is preferred; and a “Certified Facility Manager” through the Missouri School Plant Managers Association and/or equivalent education and experience;
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills; must be familiar with schools, school administrators and support functions;
  • Must be self‑motivated and able to prioritise duties in a changing environment and meet deadlines;
  • Must possess and maintain a Missouri Class E driver’s licence or equivalent accompanied by an excellent driving record; must be able to safely operate district vehicles;
  • Must have a working knowledge of large building maintenance, equipment and systems;
  • Must be computer literate and able to use various computer software such as email, Word, Excel, etc.;
  • Must be able to read, interpret and understand construction documents, including shop drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical specifications and contracts.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Examines school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Establishes and recommends priorities on repair projects.
  • Establishes building maintenance schedules for such trade activities as carpentry, electrical, masonry, painting, and plumbing.
  • Estimates cost of repair projects in terms of labour, materials, and overhead.
  • Assign and supervise crews for maintenance.
  • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
  • Serves as liaison to building occupants, identifying and resolving current and potential maintenance problems.
  • Ensure quality assurance of work product of maintenance staff.
  • Interpret and maintain physical plant in compliance with applicable building, health, safety, fire and environmental codes and regulations; initiates required corrective action.
  • Develop and manage a system for prioritising unbudgeted repairs.
  • Order materials as needed, and make recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
  • Maintain complete inventory of equipment; develop, implement and monitor preventative maintenance schedules to ensure maximum longevity of equipment.
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Advise on the hiring of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repair services.
  • Coordinate the snow and ice removal operation ensuring adequate materials, staff and equipment are on‑hand to clear parking lots, etc.
OTHER

JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Operate safely all District provided equipment.
  • Attend meetings as requested by supervisors or District administration.
  • Be respectful and courteous to parents, students and staff.
  • Maintain such personnel and other records as are required.
  • Recruit, screen, recommend for hiring and train all workers necessary to the maintenance programme.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned and be able to be inconvenienced to get buildings ready for operation for the next day.
  • Perform as a team player on other duties as may be assigned.
  • Dress and grooming should be appropriate.
