Position: OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32) with Security Clearance
Duties
* Repairs, modifies, overhauls, inspects, troubleshoots, tests, adjusts, and cleans the optics and supporting mechanical and electrical elements of complex panoramic telescopes.
* Visually inspects optical instrument equipment and operates mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions.
* Disassembles equipment; examines for serviceability using precision measuring instruments and special tools; checks lenses and prisms for aberrations.
* Replaces worn or defective parts; reassembles, adjusts, and tests for alignment, collimation, and operations.
* Interprets and applies special modifications in accordance with prescribed Modification Work Orders (MWO'S).
* Inspects, cleans and makes minimal repairs to the more complex optical devices such as ballistic computing range-finders; L.A.S.E.R. range finders and designators hermetically sealed.
* Inspects full field coincidence image fire control range-finders; and articulated telescopes containing offset prism assemblies, eyepiece assemblies, articulated joint assemblies and erector assemblies.
* Abides by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Analyzes and tests continuity of electrical circuits by utilizing test equipment such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and multi-voltage test set.
* Required to inspect, diagnose, and repair high voltage power sources used with night vision devices, aware of the hazards involved in checking high voltage circuits.
* Troubleshoots and makes on-the-spot corrections, repairs, and adjustments when possible. Instructs unit personnel in the proper operation and maintenance procedures for care, use, adjustment, and storage of equipment being inspected.
* Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
* Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
* Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
* Failure to complete management prescribed courses for full-time support personnel within the first year of employment or assignment, may be cause for reassignment or termination.
* This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Missouri National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
* This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

* Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Selected candidate must currently be assigned to a military unit in the Missouri Army National Guard. Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion). Maximum Military Grade: 1SG (E-8) with date of rank on or after 30 July 2025 GENERAL

EXPERIENCE:

Must possess experience or training that has provided you with the ability to apply knowledge of optical theory and construction principles in order to test, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment. Must have the ability to understand and apply instructions, and specifications; and interpret blue prints and diagrams of optical paths and mechanical linkages. Must have the ability to use hand and power tools common to an optical shop.
