POSITION SUMMARYTo provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS- A high‑school diploma or equivalent training and experience.
- Proficiency in general repair, painting, cleaning, and operating cleaning equipment.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
- Neat appearance.
- Ability to carry out assigned duties.
- Board‑approved alternatives to the above qualifications.
- Keep building premises, sidewalks, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Notify head custodian, maintenance supervisor, or principal of emergencies; if necessary, turn off heat, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations for maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment and machines (OSHA).
- Shovel and salt walkways, driveways, and steps as appropriate.
- Check daily to ensure all exit doors are open and panic bolts function properly during building occupancy.
- Clean assigned classrooms daily and dust furniture as time permits.
- Maintain clean and attractive floors and corridors in good condition.
- Scrub, mop, and disinfect toilet and lunch‑room floors daily; clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Wash windows inside and outside as often as necessary, weather permitting.
- Assist in keeping grounds free from rubbish.
- Empty all trash cans daily.
- Clean chalkboards at least once a week.
- Make minor building repairs as capable.
- Report major repairs promptly to the head custodian.
- Report immediately any damage to school property.
- Remain on premises during scheduled hours (excluding lunch) and during non‑school hours when authorized.
- Open and close building each day, ensuring all doors and windows are secured and lights are turned off except for safety reasons.
- Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel as requested.
- Move furniture or equipment as directed.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws for storage, use, and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, and hazardous materials (OSHA).
- Report immediately to the principal any student or public misconduct in the building or on the grounds.
- Report immediately to the head custodian any safety hazards with playground equipment, steps, halls, and all building/ground areas.
- Ensure student safety.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
- Remain free of alcohol or non‑prescription controlled substance abuse throughout employment.
- Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
- Serve as a role model to students in conduct and civic responsibility.
- Understand legal responsibility to instill ethical principles and democratic values.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee.
261 days (251 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; other vacation, holiday, and salary terms determined by negotiated agreement. Work year established by the Board.
SALARY$20.07–$23.80 per hour.
